Last week we talked about Groundhog’s Day in our speaking class. It was 2nd February when thousands of people met in some parts of the USA, especially Pensylvania, in order to see what Phil has to say about weather.
The tradition says that there will be six more weeks of winter if the groundhog can see its shadow. However, spring will come soon if the groundhog cannot see it.

In the following days we are going to enjoy, one more year, the Carnival feast in our village. We always have a lot of fun during these dates but maybe we don’t know its origins and how it is celebrated in the different countries all over the world. To know much more about this popular celebration, I give you two videos (the second one includes a complete written information about the celebration in the USA) which illustrates all the aspects and particularities of Carnival.

Americans have some crazy and weird traditions along the year. Some others are very sweet indeed. Yesterday, 27th January, it was Chocolate Cake Day and we celetrated in class.
Yesterday in our speaking session with adults, we talked about chocolate and chocolate cake recipes. At the end, we all tried a delicious piece of chocolate sponge cake.

This week, after a long struggle against cancer, the eternal Pop music icon David Bowie, has finally passed away. He was a bizarre singer, always innovating and ready to break the established rules (not only musical rules but also the fashion ones, he always had an unusual physical appearance) but, above all, an enormous musician to his full extent.
As a humble homage to his impressive career, I give you two subtitled videos of two of his first musical hits, ‘Space Oddity’ (from the self-titled 1969 album) and also from his self-titled LP from 1970, ‘The man who sold the world’.
